PART 4: BUILDING A MODIFIED AEROTECH
ASTROBEE D KIT
2. FIN ATTACHMENT:
The rocket fins are lightly sanded
and the mold flash is removed. The mold defects where the plastic injection
mold sprues were broken off are filled in with auto putty (bondo), and sanded
until flush with the fin surface. Spray with primer coat and then wet sand
with 400 grit paper between coats until a smooth finish is achieved. To
get a perfectly straight paint line between the white of the booster tube
and the light tan of the fins, the fins can be painted separately and then
glued to the booster tube later. For a stronger fin joint, secure the root
edge of the fins to the booster tube using cynoacrylate cement.
