PART 15: ADDITIONAL AND FUTURE AEROTECH
ASTROBEE D MODIFICAIONS:
This kit can also be built with a 38mm motor
mount tube to accept I class 38mm reloadable motors. New centering rings
would have to be made, as well as trimming the fin tabs to seat flush against
the larger diameter motor mount tube. An ejection baffle would be installed
at the front end of the motor tube with internal coarse steel wool. A u-bolt
would be used to anchor the parachute bridle line to the motor tube.
With minor construction modification, the Aerotech Astrobee D rocket kit
could be used with the Aerotech 38mm Reloadable motor hardware casing, using
the J350 reload which is easy access for any Level-1 certified Tripoli member.
This rocket and motor can be used to satisfy requirements for a level-2
certification flight. Newly certtified level-1 Tripoli members can purchase
and fly I class reloadable "easy access" rocket motors that could
be flown in this rocket, and would make an excellent continuation project
of the basic H powered Astrobee D project. This motor in the Astrobee D
would provide high altitude, high performance, and the abiltity to use the
same rocket to certify to both level-1 and level-2 by using the same rocket
to keep down the cost of having to buy two separate rockets.
For an extremely high performance rocket capable of single stage flight
of 15,000 to 20,000 feet, the kit could be modified to use 54mm reloadable
motor hardware for flights using J and K class motors. This rocket with
a K-550 or K-1100 reload would provide supersonic flights to to high altitudes
for level-2 certified Tripoli members. The basic Aertoch Astrobee D kit
would require extensive modification, but would also be an excellent extention
project of the basic project presented here.
And of course, the basic Aerotech Astrobee D rocket kit can be used to scale
up for near full size versions of this sounding rocket.
